Application
INTRON® 1000 dosage and blending
The INTRON® 1000 technical data sheet recommends a treatment range of 0.3–3% by weight. The appropriate dose depends on the base gasoline and the intended fuel specification. Confirm the treatment rate with product-specific blending tests.
Provide your base gasoline analysis and target RON/MON so PETRONAX can discuss the test programme and product selection. Treatment rates by mass should not be read as percentages by volume.
Before specifying a blend. Request the current product documentation and verify the fuel requirements for the destination and intended use. The technical treatment range is not a statement of approval for every finished fuel or market.
How an octane improver works
An octane improver increases gasoline resistance to knock: the spontaneous ignition of unburned fuel ahead of the normal flame front. Octane response is assessed as Research Octane Number (RON, ASTM D2699) and Motor Octane Number (MON, ASTM D2700).
N-methylaniline, also called N-Methyl Aniline or NMA, is a secondary aromatic amine used as an antiknock component. INTRON® 1000 is PETRONAX’s NMA product with a specified NMA content of at least 99.0%. The product data on this page refer to this grade; other INTRON products have separate specifications.
For background on knock and octane, see the U.S. Energy Information Administration explanation.
Octane response and laboratory validation
The increase in RON or MON depends on the INTRON product grade, treatment rate and composition of the base gasoline. A result for one grade or reference blend should not be treated as a guaranteed result for another product or fuel.
Request the relevant CFR engine test data for INTRON® 1000, including the product identity, base fuel, treatment rate and test method. RON is measured by ASTM D2699 and MON by ASTM D2700. Confirm the target performance with a test of your own gasoline.
Discuss fuel additive testing or request product-specific test information.

Comparing INTRON® 1000 and other gasoline blending options
Compare the selected product or process using the same base fuel, target RON/MON and finished-fuel requirements. The table lists criteria for technical evaluation; specifications and test results are specific to each product or process.
| Option | Product or process | Selection criteria |
|---|---|---|
| NMA component | INTRON® 1000 (N-methylaniline; specified NMA content ≥99.0%) | Review the product specification, Certificate of Analysis and blend-test response at the proposed treatment rate. |
| Oxygenates | Ethanol, MTBE, ETBE | Evaluate the proposed blend composition, measured octane response and required finished-fuel properties. |
| Metal-based antiknock agents | Lead, manganese and iron compounds | Check the specific chemistry, intended application and supporting product documentation before selection. |
| Refinery processes | Reforming, isomerisation, alkylation | Evaluate available feedstocks, process capacity, operating conditions and project economics. |
Specifying N-methylaniline for your market
For projects in Europe, the United States or other destinations, product selection starts with the intended use and the fuel specification.
Destination and use
Specify the delivery country, intended application and finished fuel requirements.
Product documentation
Request the product specification, Safety Data Sheet and relevant supporting documentation.
Blend assessment
Validate the proposed product and treatment rate against the intended fuel specification before commercial use.
INTRON® 1000 is intended for industrial use. Its SDS advises against consumer use. Contact PETRONAX to discuss the documentation needed for your project.

Lab sample
This way, you check the octane gain in your own base gasoline before you commit to a volume.
Drums and IBCs
INTRON® 1000 is available in 200 L steel drums and IBC containers. Discuss the required quantity and packaging with PETRONAX.
ISO tanks and bulk
For larger volumes, we ship in ISO tank containers, road tankers or rail tank cars.
A Certificate of Analysis accompanies each delivery. Request the TDS and SDS, and confirm the transport documentation and delivery arrangements for your destination.
INTRON® 1000 storage, handling and safety
Keep INTRON® 1000 in tightly closed containers in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place, away from ignition sources, oxidising agents and direct sunlight. NMA may darken on exposure to air and light. The product TDS states a shelf life of 12 months from manufacture under the specified conditions; this is not a shelf-life claim for finished gasoline.
The SDS classifies INTRON® 1000 as toxic if swallowed, in contact with skin or if inhaled. It may cause damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure and is toxic to aquatic life with long-lasting effects.
Read the full SDS before handling. Follow its handling, storage and exposure-control requirements and your site procedures. Request the SDS for your application.

What to include in a bulk NMA enquiry
For an INTRON® 1000 quotation, provide the required quantity, delivery destination, packaging preference and requested delivery period. For gasoline blending projects, include the base fuel analysis, target RON/MON and intended finished fuel specification.
Specify which documents your purchasing and technical teams require: the TDS, SDS, Certificate of Analysis and relevant performance data. PETRONAX can then discuss a sample or supply quotation with your team.
FAQ
N-methylaniline
& INTRON 1000
What is an octane booster?
An octane booster, also called an octane improver, is a fuel additive used to increase gasoline resistance to engine knock.
What is INTRON® 1000?
INTRON® 1000 is an N-methylaniline product with a specified NMA content of at least 99.0%, intended for industrial applications. Other INTRON grades have separate specifications.
How much INTRON® 1000 do I need?
The INTRON® 1000 TDS recommends 0.3–3% by weight. Select the treatment rate using the base gasoline, intended fuel specification and product-specific blending tests.
Can I use INTRON® 1000 in every market?
Request the product documentation and verify the requirements for the destination and intended use before specifying a blend. The technical treatment range is not an approval for every finished fuel or market.
How should I store INTRON® 1000?
Keep the product tightly closed in a cool, dry, ventilated place away from ignition sources, oxidising agents and direct sunlight. The TDS states 12 months from manufacture under the specified storage conditions.
Is NMA the same as monomethylaniline?
